Sea Turtle Season
Sea Turtle Season on Hutchinson Island: What to Expect
July 7, 2026 · 5 min read · The Beachfront Oasis Team
When it happens
Sea turtle nesting season on Hutchinson Island runs from March 1 through October 31. Peak activity is June and July, with hatchlings emerging August through early October.
What you'll see
Each morning at first light, volunteers from the Ecological Associates mark and catalog every new nest along the beach. Wooden stakes and yellow tape appear overnight. From the residence's balcony you can spot fresh nests before breakfast.
How to be a good neighbor
- No white light on the beach at night — turn off exterior lights and close blackout drapes after sunset.
- Fill in any holes you dig for kids to play in; sea turtles fall into them and can't climb out.
- Keep the beach flat — knock down sandcastles before you leave.
- Never approach a nesting turtle, even for a photo. Give her at least 50 feet.
Where to see hatchlings responsibly
The Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center runs guided walks in June and July. Book at least a month in advance.
